World Book Day

Socrates famously said that “the unexamined life is not worth living” and we think that the best way to start examining our own lives is to read about someone else trying to do the same thing. So, in honour of World Book Day, we’ve gathered a short list of seven of our favourite books, each filled with ideas that will hopefully expand your mind, develop your daily habits, and challenge you to keep moving forward in every area of your life. Let’s go!

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck | by Mark Manson

This instantly iconic smash hit completely rewrites and revamps the old and outdated ‘rulebook’ we are all given on how to lead a happy life. Blogger Mark Manson hilariously bashes the ‘constant positivity’ mindset that so many of us strive for today, and instead frankly and refreshingly lets his readers know that sometimes life will just suck, and that’s okay. An honest and monumental piece that reads like a cold splash of water to the face.

The Neuroscience of Mindfulness | by Dr. Stan Rodski

This book simply, and do we dare say, mindfully, explains the benefits, and demystifies the recently popular buzzword that is ‘mindfulness’. Dr. Stan Rodski uses his background in psychology and biological statistics to present mindfulness (completing simple, repetitive tasks with focus and attention) as the most efficient way to quieten a noisy mind. Mindfulness, according to the good doctor can help us relax, and improve our general outlook on life. Definitely a page turner!

Stumbling on Happiness | by Daniel Gilbert

Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert takes a charming look into the shortcomings of the human psyche that has us constantly dreaming, planning and thinking about the future, but always failing to consider how happy these futures will actually help us be. Gilbert makes us feel less alone in the mistakes we make regarding our own happiness, and for those interested, offers help to start fixing these mistakes.
